Coronation Street star raises money for Bury Hospice by walking on fire

Actor Liam McCheyne, who plays Dylan Wilson, swapped the cobbles for hot coals as he took part in a charity firewalk for Bury Hospice.

The fundraiser took place at Woodbank Cricket Club last Thursday, with the 16-year-old participating along with his twin brother and members of the public.

Mr McCheyne is an ambassador for the hospice and raised £2,375 online by walking over a path of smouldering coals following a crash course in the activity.

Before the experience, he said: “It is a real privilege to help the hospice knowing how vital their work is.”

The soap star described how helping the local community is a passion of his and how he saw this as an opportunity to step out of his comfort zone and into the unknown.

The event was staged by UK Firewalk to assist people in learning how to approach the danger as safely as possible, whilst the cricket club also hosted a barbecue for spectators and participants alike.

With cash donations given on the night, the amount raised by Mr McCheyne was cited as £3,650 and will go directly to the hospice, which aims to become a centre of excellence for palliative and end of life care in Bury.
