BREAKING: Bus crashes intro building in Piccadilly Gardens

A major emergency service response is in place in Piccadilly Gardens this afternoon, as a bus has crashed into a building.

Bus & tram services have been severely affected with both stations closed.

Trams are still passing through the area, but will not stop.

Police are asking people to avoid the area.

A GMP spokesperson said: “At around 1pm today (Monday 16 October) police were called to reports of a collision involving a bus and a shop in Piccadilly Gardens.

“Police alongside colleagues in the Northwest Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue have been in attendance.

“There are road closures in the area whilst emergency services remain at the scene dealing with the collision and officers from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are in attendance.

“We would ask members of the public to avoid the area where possible whilst officers establish the full circumstances.”

A spokesperson for TfGM added: “Due to an ongoing police incident involving a bus, Piccadilly Gardens is currently closed to all bus services.

“All buses are using alternative stops in the city centre.

“Passengers are advised to use the following stops at this time:

  • Oxford Road (outside Palace Hotel) – 41, 42, 42A, 42B, 42C, 43, 85, 86, 142, 143, 250, 263
  • Princess Street (outside Alan Hotel) – 35, 36, 37 and 38
  • Chepstow Street – 255, 256 and X50
  • Whitworth Street West – 101, 102, 103

“Metrolink services will not stop at Piccadilly Gardens.”
