Welsh student film wins four separate awards

A heartbreaking Welsh film made by Salford film Students has won four separate awards across multiple film festivals. Coeden Meinir was awarded best international film, best low budget film, best student at international film festival of wales and best production design at Salford film festival.

Coeden Meinir is a short film inspired by a Welsh folk tale, it follows the tragic yet beautiful love story of Rhys and Meinir. Set against the stunning backdrop of Northern Wales.

The Film surrounds a young bride Meinir, who hides on her wedding morning, and her groom Rhys, runs to find her. Concealed behind their favourite tree, Meinir waits for her lover to find her so they may be married at last. But nightfall is drawing near, and her forest is intent on keeping her.

“Getting to work with actors who did speak Welsh, just made the bond and connection with the film that much stronger”. Says Director Josie Harris who helped to make the tragic tale come to life.

Josie Harris hopes that the story will allow those to enjoy and admire the Welsh culture to hold space for the conversation around preserving the beautiful language.
