A Greater Manchester man is attempting his first half marathon inspired by his late brother.
Steve O’Donnell is taking part in the Morunning event which starts at Heaton Park on the 17th alongside dozens of other runners supporting Movember.
Movember is an annual event in which men grow moustaches throughout the month of November to raise money for men’s mental health or simply to show support. But some take on challenges in name of the event.
Steve describes himself as an amateur runner and his current furthest distance run is eleven miles but, on the 17th, he will take on a few extra miles and aim to complete the Morunning challenge
He said: “I’ve never done Movember before and I’ve always wanted to grow a moustache, so I thought it was a perfect opportunity for a good cause.
“About three years ago, I lost my brother, due to mental health. Ever since his passing I wanted to do something. I want to do what I can do to help sort of everybody and try and raise awareness of it every year.
“So, for the past three years I started just doing 10km just doing some sponsored runs. I’ve not even trained up to the half marathon, yet I’ve done eleven miles. I’d love to get a personal best of two hours – I’m optimistic.”
Steve has already smashed his target goal of £300.
“The first time doing Movember, you set a £300 target. It’s been smashed in two days. “I am on £355 now which is brilliant”.
