Service people and veterans gathered at St Peter’s Square on Remembrance Sunday

Service people, veterans and thousands of people gathered at the Cenotaph on St Peter’s Square to pay their respects.

A procession included service people, service and ex-service organisations, emergency services, faith leaders and many more.

Councillor Paul Andrews, Lord Mayor of Manchester, said: “Remembrance Sunday is a time for us all to reflect and honour the immeasurable sacrifices our servicemen and woman have made both in times of war and peace.”

Service-people also opened up about how they feel on Remembrance Sunday.

Soldier Neil Strong stated: “Reflect on all the soldiers that didn’t come back, people come and thank me for my service but this should be about those that didn’t come back.”

Former soldier Adam Rotherwell explained: “The first ten years of my growing up to adult life was in the military, it made me see a wider perspective of the world.

“I feel quite honoured for what I’ve done and I also feel lucky that I got out of this unscathed when there’s plenty of people that didn’t,” he added.

A two-minute silence was also held at 11am, with the beginning and end was marked by the firing of a maroon.

The Remembrance Sunday parade also attended the event and played ‘The Last Post’.
