However, the theatre went up for auction in the hope someone will save it. The nearby residents are hoping it gets taken over by someone who wants to keep its original purpose and preserve what the theatre stands for.
A local Salford Symphony Orchestra have expressed how they want the theatre to become a music venue or theatre again, so have set up a campaign in the hope of restoring the venue back to its original glory.
The Orchestra was founded in 1974, which was not long after Salford Victoria Theatre was created.
Alongside the orchestra, local musician and music promoter, Zaim Choudhury, who was in the Salford based band ‘In Heather’ also urged for action to be taken.
Local artists who showcased their work at the auction evening have also expressed their feelings on what they want the venue to be next.
SK, who is a painter, poet and sculptor from Little Hulton, said; “it’s exploring the space with the people” and “asking the community what it should be”.
Another artist, Jaz Sykes, who also works the exhibitions, events and social media for the theatre said; “we can restore it back to an arts community, theatre and hub”.
With the start of the auction launching last night, many hope the theatre will be able to open again.
