Salford residents “living on construction site” almost four years after building finished

Residents are angered about the presence of building equipment left following the construction of three large flat complexes in Adelphi Wharf.

The 602 ‘luxury apartments’ situated on the banks of the Irwell River in Salford were completed back in 2021 by construction company Beaumont Morgan Development Limited which went into liquidation in early 2024.

According to Construction Enquirer, Beaumont Morgan went into administration owing £12.3 million, plus £7 million to unsecured creditors leaving equipment, unfinished construction in public areas and debris for those living in the flats to look at every day.

A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “They said to my boyfriend that it would be cleared up by the time he moved in, that was over a year ago now.

“It’s an eye sore, and a health and safety hazard.”

Another resident at the complex said: “A single roomed studio in these complex costs around £900 a month, we should be getting better value for our money.”

Fortis Group, the Manchester based property development company who oversaw the construction of the development regard the construction as complete, according to their website.

In an interview with Manchester Evening News in 2015 Kieran Moore, Director of Fortis Group at the time said: “Fortis has worked closely with Salford City Council to ensure that the design and visual impact of Adelphi Wharf complements the area.”

Yet four years after the building’s completion the area is still occupied by building material and unfinished work.

Fortis Group has been asked for comment.

A photographic history, documented by Google Maps, shows that the construction of the complex was abandoned by 2021 and equipment and building material have been left there since.
