The Manchester 24 Hour run against homelessness took place earlier this week, raising more than £47,000 for the Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity scheme.
The event started in 2019, and has been partnered with the charity to help raise money for the “A Bed Every Night” scheme, which aims to get homeless people off the streets of Manchester.
Since the event began, homelessness rates in Greater Manchester have halved. The charity has funded 70,000 nights of accommodation through their scheme, and awarded over £3 million in grants to local causes.
Over 4000 individuals and 165 organisations have been supported by The Greater Manchester Mayor Charity since 2019.
Thomas Lewis, the lead organiser of the Manchester 24 hour run has expressed his delight on the event this year; ‘It’s quadrupled in size (since 2019) and we’ve gone from being in the Student Union reception (University of Manchester), to being out on the streets here at Freight Island. It’s been incredible’.
