Salford based brewery Seven Brothers have launched a new beer to support the Salford Lads Club, which says it needs to raise money urgently to stay open.
£1.50 from every can of Salford Lads Club Helles Lager will go towards supporting bthe iconic club, which featured in The Smiths’ album The Queen Is Dead.
The Seven Brothers have a strong connection with the company and after hearing about the clubs immediate need of fund the brewery kicked into gear.
“We got involved immediately,” says Keith McAvoy head of marketing at Seven Brothers.
He continued: “Our connection with the Salford lads club goes way back; anything to do with our home city were always really interested in getting involved with”
The club said in October that it needs to raise £250,000 to remain open.
“Were already thinking of other events that we can do, now and in the future to make sure the club stays open, its made us realise that we probably need to do more” says Keith.
“We’ve been making beers for the Salford Lads club for a couple years now” Keith says. Earlier this year the brewery also collaborated with the Salford Lads Club to celebrate the club’s 120th birthday.
Following the collaboration the Brothers took to Instagram to say: “For over 120 years, Salford Lads and Girls Club has been a vital space for young people to learn, grow and belong. But now, they’re facing the real threat of closure.”
