The famous Manchester Christmas Markets are back for another year of festivities.
With ever rising prices and consistently growing costs, the Christmas Markets may no longer be the best day out for families. In fact, on average, the Stockport Christmas markets offer food at around £2 less than the Manchester markets and hot chocolate is a whopping £3 less.
The money saved from swapping markets could easily pay for a train ticket to Stockport and may still have even more left to save.
“We try to keep our prices down a bit less than Manchester to try and get more customers”. A stall holder said.
They said that Stockport “is a quieter town so we try to keep prices down” to gain attention amongst customers.
However, not everyone enjoys the quiet atmosphere of the Stockport markets with one member of the public stating that she likes “busy because you can feel it’s Christmas”.
The prices, however, may not be all that is relevant to someone’s choice of destination. One gentleman said that he might go to the cheaper market but “the aesthetics of the market are definitely cool here” in reference to Manchester.
It seems the general consensus amongst the public is that the Manchester markets are iconic and aesthetically pleasing but ‘quite expensive’. It could be that Stockport Christmas Markets soon surpass Manchester for the go to family day out.
