The Salford Survivor Project is at risk of closing its doors after financial difficulties.
One hundred sponsors are needed by the end of the month.
Thirty sponsors are already signed up, but the charity still has a long way to go.
The charity offers a range of support services for survivors and their loved ones. This includes advice and guidance, meetings with agencies, safety planning and signposting to local and national services.
It also has useful conctacts, such as Shelter and Victim support for those who need it the most.
Jane Gregory, founder of the charity, stated “Iām best served helping and serving people.ā
Taking me away from that job is a disservice to the people that come here.ā
With high domestic violence reports, charities like these offer a lifeline for people who are in desperate need of support.
A victim wishing to be unnamed stated, “It was very traumatic and without anybody to talk to I wouldn’t be able to open up to anyone.”
“Without the people in my group who I’ve become friends with, I’d be very alone.”
Another victim stated, “I’d be lost without their help.”
“They are helping me know different things to look for in another relationship.”
Greater Manchester Police have handled over 67 thousand domestic violence cases, with a 21% increase from the previous year.
