Manchester United have issued a statement to fans following the distress surrounding recent ticket price increases.
The Premier League side have recently been charging fans £66 to watch games at Old Trafford, regardless of age or seat location.
However, the prices are in relation to sales after major ticket releases, as most of the allocation is sold in advance.
Their ticketing website reads: “97% of match tickets for this season have already been sold, with five age-related discounts made available for all sales.
“Now that all major ticket releases have taken place, we are unable to offer any further discounted tickets for this game.”
The club believe that their recent changes are justified, as they aim to improve their financial status.
A statement from the club, released on December 2, said: “As a club, we have been focused on cost saving to put us on a stronger financial footing.
“This means having to make very hard decisions, including a significant reduction in our staff numbers.”
Ruben Amorim’s side posted a net loss of £113.2 million for the financial year ending 30 June 2024.
In their first-quarter report of the new financial year, released last week, the club revealed they had spent a further £8.6 million in a redundancy programme which led to around 250 former employees leaving their roles at the club.
Furthermore, United spent over £20 million in the process of paying off former boss Erik ten Hag’s contract and bringing in the former Sporting Lisbon manager.
The club further stated that they are: “looking for opportunities to increase our revenues so we can continue to invest in football and infrastructure.”
Nevertheless, the decision to raise ticket prices has frustrated fans, reflected through tickets still being available for their next home game against Nottingham Forest, who currently occupy a top-six place in the Premier League.
Before that, however, the Red Devils are on their travels, as they head to the Emirates to take on Arsenal on December 4.
