The Lightwaves are back in Salford this year with 14 installations dotted around Media City. This year celebrates the 11th anniversary of the Lightwaves in Salford.
Light up the North is a network of Northern light festivals which come together every year to light up different areas up and down the country after dark.
Their goal is to support emerging artists, both local, national and international. As well as exploring technical innovations and create aspirational work in the celebration of light.
The light installations use different scales of light, sound and technology to create a mesmerising and immersive experience.
The illuminated artworks will light up a 2km fully accessible trail around Media City and Salford Quays where people can admire the lights and listen to the sounds.
One installation called ‘Navvies’ is an audio visual installation which recognises the role of 17,000 navvies who dug the Manchester Ship Canal. This installation will be available to the public to view in the Media City Trail.
A show stopping water based centre piece, named ‘Monad’ will look over Media City’s iconic piazza, and will be around for an extra two weeks.
No bookings are needed for the event and it is available to the public from 5th to 8th December from 4pm.
Throughout the festival, there are guided tours which are open for the public to use, including a BSL guided tour on 7th December at 19:00 and a guided bike ride tour on 8th December at 16:00.
Wagamamas are also giving away a free hot drink exclusively for guests who attend the Lightwaves event.
