A statement from GMP has confirmed that “a women in her 50s suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.”

One witness of the fire said: “I was woken up just after five o’clock this morning after I heard screaming and shouting.

“I looked out of my window and saw the fire and the lady sitting on the pavement outside.

“Neighbours were running over to pick her up and get her away from the fire and the smoke,” he continued.

The woman was taken to the hospital  by North West Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS), where she is currently being treated.

The community has since been left in a state of shock following the events this morning, as the eye-witness continued: “I moved into my house about six months ago and it’s a reasonably close community.

“It shows as families and children have been gathered at the police line in utter shock about what has happened.”

The property was destroyed by the blaze, and there were visible burnt plastics around the house.

The impact has been felt, as the eye-witness continued: “I feel really sorry for the lady as you can see how badly damaged the house is”.
